The Charlotte Roller Girls Cheer for Thunder Road Runners!

The Charlotte Roller Girls cheering on the runners

Runners raced through the streets of Charlotte on Saturday morning for the Thunder Road Marathon. The course meanders through unique communities including our own neck of the woods, North Davidson, where the Charlotte Roller Girls cheered on the hard-working runners. A couple of skaters even rolled through with runners to give them some added motivation. From miles 19.5 to 21.5, league members were skating, cheering and trying to get the noise makers to actually make noise.

With a bloody mary bar, Bojangles biscuits, local beer and a DJ…NoDa transformed into a great party and cheer zone for participants fighting through that end-of-course lag. The cheer zone even featured the “Wall”, constructed and designed by local NoDa resident artists during the 2011 Thunder Road Marathon Party.

The Wall

The eighth annual event attracted thousands of runners, including New York native Dave Kerpen. Kerpen raised more than $4,000 for small businesses affected by Superstorm Sandy. We want to say congratulations to all of the participants who met any personal goals during this event (We know it was a Boston Marathon Qualifier too!). The Charlotte Roller Girls are so proud of all the dedicated athletes that completed the Thunder Road Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K!
