I fill any referees roles necessary. I enjoy the speed involved in being a Jammer Referee (JR) the most but I’m also very comfortable as an Outside Pack Referee (OPR).
What got you into roller derby?
I was introduced to roller derby by a coworker at the time. She continues to play for the Columbia QuadSquad. I was a skater until deciding to “retire” to refereeing at the end of 2015.
How did you come up with your name?
“Bonnie” represents my husband’s Scottish heritage and “BEG” is an online nickname I’ve had just about since the internet was invented. It’s simply short for “brown eyed girl.”
What is your biggest goal this year?
I’d like to continue to grow in confidence as a skating official. When I was a skater, I learned a lot from the referees that were around me. Seeing my actions on the track in the eyes of the officials helped me to improve as a skater. I hope to help the current and future skaters learn as much as possible about the rules of roller derby so that they can become more effective teammates.
I totally love my Cheeseball bearings and Rollerbones Turbos wheels! Both are well-made which translates to more value for my money!
